All must help Israeli-Palestinian peace

WASHINGTON, March 8 (UPI) -- Arab states as well as Western nations must pitch in to help bring about a Palestinian-Israeli peace, President Bush said in Washington Tuesday.

Bush, speaking at the National Defense University, said Arab states must end anti-Israel incitement in its media, cut off any funding for terrorists, stop extremist education and establish normal relations with Israel.

Israel must freeze settlement activity on Palestinian lands, help the Palestinians build a thriving economy and ensure an independent Palestinian state "is truly viable with contiguous territory on the West Bank," he said.

The Palestinians, meanwhile, must confront and curb terrorist groups and fight corruption in their government.

Bush said the goal of two independent states -- one Palestinian, one Israeli -- was achievable if each side meets its responsibilities, and the United States and others help with aid, training and equipment.
