Saudi killer beheaded in Riyadh

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia, March 7 (UPI) -- Saudi Arabian authorities Monday beheaded a Saudi national convicted of murdering a compatriot following an argument between them.

An Interior Ministry statement said the man who was executed in public in the capital Riyadh was found guilty of firing at another Saudi with a rifle.

A day earlier, the Saudi authorities beheaded an Indian national for killing a compatriot in the kingdom.

Monday's execution increased to 22 the total number of people put to death since the beginning of the year, most of them convicted of drug smuggling.

The oil-rich kingdom, which insists it follows Islamic laws, beheads people convicted of murder, repeated drug traffickers, rapists, armed robbers and Muslims who renounce their religion.
