Czech opposition to call no-confidence vote

PRAGUE, Czech Republic, March 7 (UPI) -- The Czech Republic's leading opposition party, the Civic Democrat Party, said Monday it would call a vote of no-confidence in the government after Easter.

The Civic Democrats said they would call the vote in response to a lingering scandal over the financing of Prime Minister Stanislav Gross's luxury apartment in Prague.

Gross says he has not broken the law although he acknowledges he has not handled the situation well.

The scandal has rocked the three party coalition government, although one party in the government, the Christian Democrat Party, has temporarily withdrawn demands for Gross to step down.

Opinion polls suggest the right leaning Civic Democrats would come out on top in any new elections resulting from the fall of the government.

Analysts say this will likely hold the government together, at least in the short term.
