Hafer out of 2006 Pennsylvnia Senate race

March 4, 2005 at 4:35 PM   |   Comments

WASHINGTON, March 4 (UPI) -- One day after saying she was in, former Pennsylvania State Treasurer Barbara Hafer said she was out of the 2006 U.S. Senate race.

Hafer said she was quitting the race because of a request from Democratic Gov. Ed Rendell, who has been working to recruit current Treasurer Robert Casey Jr. into the race.

With the field now clear, Casey said Friday he intends to run against U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum, R-Pa., and would make a formal announcement at a later date.
