Sen. Bayh makes changes in PAC, staff

WASHINGTON, March 1 (UPI) -- U.S. Sen. Evan Bayh has hired staff with presidential campaign experience and revamped his Political Action Committee for a possible bid for president.

The Democrat from Indiana, has hired several key staff members who had worked in the Bill Clinton's White House or had served in presidential races.

Bayh's PAC, which has raised $1.5 million since 1999, has a new name -- the All America PAC -- and its now being headed by Steve Bouchard, who has worked for previous Democratic presidential hopefuls in New Hampshire, reported the Indianapolis Star.

Bayh's spokesman said the changes shouldn't be seen as preparations for a potential 2008 presidential bid.

"This is building on his efforts from the day he got to the Senate where he became very active in doing what he could to help the party and help elect Democrats who share his views," said spokesman Dan Pfeiffer.

However, Bayh has stepped up his efforts to raise PAC money and speak before Democrats nationwide.
