MIAMI, March 1 (UPI) -- The family of a brain-damaged Tampa woman have filed a flurry of motions to save her life, including a petition for a divorce from her husband.
Terri Schiavo's family filed 11 new motions and asked for quick action on the total of 15 on file. Circuit Judge George Greer refused to hear two of the new motions, including the one involving divorce, The Tampa Tribune reported Tuesday.
He also declined to consider four pending motions asking for new medical tests, treatment and the removal of her husband, Michael Schiavo, as his wife's guardian.
The motions remaining under advisement could put the case before the U.S. Supreme Court.
Greer has ruled several times Schiavo's brain was destroyed when she suffered cardiac arrest nearly 15 years ago at age 26 and she is in a permanent vegetative state.
She has been kept alive by the use of a feeding tube. Greer has granted a three-way stay for removal of the tube.
Greer ruled after a trial in 2000 that testimony from her husband and his relatives showed she would not want to be kept alive by artificial means.
