Southwest offers direct link to customers

DALLAS, Feb. 28 (UPI) -- Southwest Airlines Monday announced a new direct link service that will send the airline's hottest fare deals directly to customers' computer desktops.

The service, called DING!, can be downloaded from the Southwest Web site and will reside in the "system tray/notification area" on the computer screen's lower right hand corner, the company said.

"The new product -- DING! -- is the newest technological innovation to let Southwest customers know directly when Southwest's hottest deals are available at southwest.com," said Kevin Krone, Southwest's vice president of interactive marketing.

Through March 7, members of Southwest's Rapid Rewards frequent flyer program will receive the added incentive of two bonus credits for downloading DING!, he said.

Southwest, which was the first airline to offer a Web site 10 years ago, said the new direct link for customers is another first for air carriers.
