Final ruling issued in USS Cole bombing

SANAA, Yemen, Feb. 26 (UPI) -- A Yemeni court Saturday sentenced one person to death and five others to prison terms after convicting them of involvement in the bombing of USS Cole.

The appeals court that deals in terrorism cases sentenced Abdel Rahim al-Nashiri to death and the five others were given prison terms ranging between 15 and five years with hard labor.

The final ruling reduced the sentence of Jamal Badawi from death to 15 years in prison, but maintained the death sentence for al-Nashiri. The original sentence was issued last Dec. 29.

The defendants were convicted of supporting the suicide bombers who attacked the USS Cole in the port of Aden in October 2000, killing 17 U.S. servicemen.
