DALLAS, Feb. 25 (UPI) -- Dallas school officials said Friday they plan to fire three fourth-grade teachers at one school for helping students cheat on state standardized tests.
Superintendent Larry Groppel said a fourth teacher, who had retired last year and worked as a consultant, will have her contract terminated as a result of the review.
"We want to send a clear message that cheating is not going to be tolerated in this district," he said in a statement.
Groppel said 34 other Dallas schools cited in a Dallas Morning News story about alleged cheating were cleared in the two-month internal investigation.
"Contrary to the news reports, there is no evidence of widespread cheating in district schools," he said.
Groppel said the questionable test results were limited to the four teachers in one grade level last year at Harrell Budd Elementary School and did not involve administrators.
Earlier this month Houston school officials said they planned to fire two fifth-grade teachers at one school and demote the principal for allegedly helping students cheat on the state tests.
