Iran lashes teenage girl 100 times for sex

TEHRAN, Feb. 25 (UPI) -- Iran's Islamic authorities have given a teenage girl 100 lashes for having sex out of wedlock, Sky News reported Friday.

A court, which enforces Shiite Muslim law, convicted and sentenced the girl because it did not believe the sex stemmed from kidnapping and rape, as she testified.

The two men with whom she had sex were each given 40 lashes.

In Iran girls over the age of nine and boys over 16 face the death penalty for crimes such as rape and murder.

Capital punishment can be imposed in certain cases of illegal sexual relationships.
