LONDON, Feb. 19 (UPI) -- A London couple has become the first same-sex pair to announce their marriage in the Times of London, the newspaper said Saturday.

John O'Connor and Mark Jones said in their announcement that they plan to take advantage of same-sex civil union legislation expected to come into force this fall. After the civil union is ratified, the couple plans to have their partnership blessed at an Anglican church in West London.

The announcement is the first-ever civil partnership between a same-sex couple to see print in the Times's Forthcoming Marriages column.
