Canada body-parts murder victim identified
UNITED NATIONS, Feb. 18 (UPI) -- The United Nations is sending a team to report on the circumstances, causes and consequences of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri's assassination.
U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan, following a request of the Security Council, would be dispatching the team within the next few days to "urgently report," his spokesman, Fred Eckhard, said Friday.
The team was to be led by Peter Fitzgerald, a Deputy Police Commissioner of the Irish National Police Force or Garda Siochana. It will consist of staff with relevant expertise.
Fitzgerald and his team are to gather such information as necessary for Annan to report to the council in a timely manner, the spokesman said in a statement.
Hariri and members of his bodyguard were killed Monday in Beirut by a bomb explosion. The government of Syria has denied any involvement in the assassination.
