KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, Feb. 18 (UPI) -- Malaysia Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said Thursday he is concerned about the latest bombing in southern Thailand, Bernama reports.

Abdhullah said he did not want to see the situation in the region erupt into violence because it would not be good for anyone and hoped Thai Premier Thaksin Shinawatra would be able to control the situation in the restive region.

Abdullah was commenting on a car bombing Thursday that killed four people and injured 40 in Sungai Golok across the border from Kelantan.

The Prime Minister said Malaysia and Thailand have an understanding that they would like to jointly cooperate in the economic development of the region.

But the region has been engulfed in a series of violent incidents since last year.

"We are all very, very unhappy about it and I would urge my good counterpart, Prime Minister Thaksin, to do whatever he can (to restore peace)," he said.
