Hariri family vows to keep up his legacy

BEIRUT, Lebanon, Feb. 17 (UPI) -- The family of slain Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri vowed Thursday to continue in his moderate political line and called for an immediate investigation.

Hariri's family issued a statement in which it said "We, the spouse, sons and family of Rafik Hariri, proclaim and pledge before his large Lebanese family that we will continue his national work and follow in his footsteps in Lebanon and the Arab world." "We will stay on his political course based on Lebanon's sovereignty, independence and national unity," the statement added.

It also called on the Arab and international communities "to implement the provisions of the declaration issued on Feb. 15 by the president of the U.N. Security Council to unveil the identity of the criminals and punish them within a short and reasonable period."

Hariri, who was credited for rebuilding Lebanon following 15 years of a destructive civil war, was killed Monday in a car bombing in Beirut.
