BRUSSELS, Feb. 16 (UPI) -- U.S. Secretary of Commerce Carlos Gutierrez met with European Union economic leaders Wednesday to discuss ways to promote U.S.-EU economic growth.
Gutierrez talked with European Commission Vice-President Gunter Verheugen on how the United States and the European Union could work together to build domestic growth and jobs. Stressing the importance of on-going reviews of their economic relationship, they both applauded work done under the Trans-Atlantic Business Dialogue.
"We had a constructive conversation today about how best to create a transatlantic environment that promotes innovation, competitiveness and economic growth," said Gutierrez.
EC Vice-President Verheugen said: "We share the view that governments have to set the right framework so that industry can create growth and jobs. By removing barriers to transatlantic trade and investment, we will facilitate for our respective business communities to do so."
