Another al-Qaida terror attack may occur

WASHINGTON, Feb. 16 (UPI) -- U.S. security officials say the next terrorist attack in the United States by al-Qaida or other groups could be by car bomb or other low-tech weapon.

In renewing their warnings of such attacks, the officials also noted Wednesday terror groups are trying to circumvent U.S. security measures to obtain weapons of mass destruction, CNN reported.

"It may be only a matter of time before al-Qaida or other groups attempt to use chemical, biological, radiological or nuclear weapons. We must focus on that," CIA Director Porter Goss told the Senate Intelligence Committee.

During his first public appearance as CIA director, Goss outlined international threats to the United States, including al-Qaida, whose leaders Osama bin Laden and Ayman al-Zawahiri remain at large.

"Their capture alone would not be enough to eliminate the terror threat to the U.S.," Goss said.

FBI Director Robert Mueller also noted al-Qaida remains intent on attacking the United States on its own soil.
