Haitian television to expand

MIAMI, Feb. 14 (UPI) -- South Florida's Creole and French Language Haitian Television Network of America is expanding throughout the region and soon may go national.

As of this month, Comcast cable subscribers in all of the Fort Lauderdale area's Broward County and major parts of Miami-Dade County will be able to watch the Creole and French language broadcasts, The Miami Herald said.

The move was made possible in October when the network, known as HTN, signed a national agreement in October with Comcast.

The agreement opened the possibility of a presence in such cities as Boston, Chicago and Atlanta, said Claude Mancuso, who heads HTN.

The network plans to boost live coverage of events in Haiti, add soap operas, sitcoms, French and Haitian movies and more sports, Mancuso said.

Mancuso said he also hopes to add programming geared toward English-speaking Caribbean nationals.

"The idea is to become available nationwide really wherever Haitians are," he said.
