Rafsanjani urges U.S. dialogue with Iran

TEHRAN, Feb. 11 (UPI) -- Former Iranian President Hashemi Rafsanjani Friday warned the United States would "pay a very big price" if it does not end its nuclear dispute with Iran.

"I say frankly to the White House that its aggressive methods and threats are sterile because they do not intimidate the Iranian people," Rafsanjani told worshippers in Tehran, the Iranian News Agency, IRNA, reported.

"We advise them to deal with us in a peaceful way because our Islamic revolution is immortal and will stay forever," Rafsanjani said, warning Washington against carrying out any threats against Iran "because it will pay a very big price."

Rafsanjani, chairman of the powerful Expediency Discernment Council, noted developed countries produce up to 80 percent of their electricity with nuclear energy.

"How could these countries tell the great and powerful Iran, which acquired nuclear technology, not to use it to produce electricity?" Rafsanjani said.

"We will surely keep this technology which we have acquired thanks to our scientific efforts."
