UNITED NATIONS, Feb. 8 (UPI) -- U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan's new chief of staff is to travel Washington Wednesday for talks with congressional leaders.
U.N. spokesman Fred Eckhard said Mark Malloch Brown was expected to meet were Sens. Norm Coleman and Carl Levin, the Republican chairman and ranking Democrat, in that order, of the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations. Brown was also expected to meet with Reps. Henry Hyde and Tom Lantos of the House International Relations Committee.
Eckhard called the trip "a follow-up to the interim report" issued last week by former U.S. Federal Reserve Board Chairman Paul Volcker's Independent Inquiry Committee.
Brown was to report to U.S. lawmakers what the United Nations has done in recent years "to reform its administrative and management practices," Eckhard told reporters at U.N. World Headquarters in New York.
