Hamas rejects Abbas' cease-fire

GAZA, Feb. 8 (UPI) -- Hamas leaders Tuesday rejected Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas' cease-fire declaration at the peace summit in Sharm el-Sheikh in Egypt.

Musheer al-Masri, a spokesman for Hamas in Gaza, told reporters Abbas' declaration represents only the Palestinian Authority's position "and doesn't necessarily represent the position of other factions, including Hamas."

"Our position in Hamas is still clear: There is no cease-fire offered to the Zionist enemy without a real price. We will keep dealing with calmness only if Israel shows commitments to release all Palestinian prisoners," al-Masri said.

Hamas insists all the 8,000 Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails be released and rejects plans to release only 900 Palestinian prisoners in two stages, 500 immediately and 400 others after three months.

"We want to see all prisoners released," al-Masri said. "We really feel sorry that this summit had not achieved what our people were looking forward to be achieved."
