LONDON, Feb. 3 (UPI) -- Seven British paratroopers have been charged with the slaying of an Iraqi civilian, Downing Street announced Thursday.
The seven will face court martial for joint offenses of murder and violent disorder in the May 2003 death of Nadhem Abdullah in al U'Zayra in southern Iraq.
The death occurred following an incident at the roadside, the government said. No further details were released.
Those charged include Cpl. Scott Evans, Pvt. William Nerney and Pvt. Daniel Harding, of 3rd Battalion, Parachute Regiment.
The other four, from the same regiment, will be named when they have been informed of the charges against them.
