New aftershock rattles Aceh province

JAKARTA, Jan. 31 (UPI) -- A fresh aftershock rattled Indonesia's devastated provincial capital of Banda Aceh Monday morning, sending survivors of last month's tsunami into a panic.

The new aftershock, measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale, rocked the capital of Aceh, the province hit hardest by the Dec. 26 disaster.

Monday's quake occurred at 10:08 a.m., with its epicenter in the Indian Ocean 64 miles northwest of Banda Aceh. There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties.

Experts have said that aftershocks would continue to rock the area over the next few weeks.

Meanwhile, the number of bodies that have been found and buried in Indonesia as a result of last month's tsunami reached 108,110 Monday, with 127,749 others still unaccounted for, the country's disaster center said.
