Fox to push for migration accord in March

MEXICALI, Mexico, Jan. 31 (UPI) -- Mexican President Vicente Fox Monday said he plans to push for a migratory agreement with the United States in March.

Speaking in the Mexican border city of Mexicali, Fox said he will travel to Washington, DC in March to meet with President George W. Bush to strengthen the relationship between the two countries, particularly by pushing for a migratory agreement.

The agreement, proposed by Bush, but which has not gained support from Congress, would allow thousands of undocumented Mexicans living and working in the United States to obtain temporary guest worker permits.

"Next I am going to Washington to meet with President Bush," Fox said. "Now that we are entering his second term, it is the time to advance the migratory agreement between the two nations.

"But we also need to revise the situation at the border and look to conserve its flexibility, speed in transit, and its security," he added.
