Five-year-old boy sacrificed in India

RANCHI, India, Jan. 25 (UPI) -- A five-year-old boy was killed in India's eastern state of Jharkhand as a human sacrifice this weekend, the second human sacrifice reported there this month.

According to police, the boy was sacrificed in a small village by a family friend, Tara Sardar, reported the Deccan Herald Tuesday. After being missing for a few hours the victim was found at a neighbor's home lying in a pool of blood before a picture of the goddess Kali. Sardar, the accused, reportedly told the villagers that Kali had appeared in his dreams for several days, asking for human blood.

The Hindu goddess Kali is a destructive and creative aspect of God as the Divine Mother. Skulls, cemeteries and blood are often associated with her worship.

This is the second incident of human sacrifice reported from Jharkhand this month. On Jan. 13 a group of angry villagers lynched an occult practitioner, accusing him of killing an eight-year-old boy, Sanjeev Toppo, in another rural village.

Toppo had been missing for seven days and was found dead with his throat slit and hands chopped.
