Five soldiers killed in Iraqi crash

WASHINGTON, Jan. 25 (UPI) -- Five U.S. soldiers from the 1st Infantry Division died and two were seriously injured in a vehicle accident in Iraq.

Details of the Monday accident and the names of the dead and injured have not yet been released. The accident occurred near Khan Bani Saad, about 12 miles south of Baquba. The town was the scene of a Jan. 13 car bombing outside a Shiite mosque that killed at least seven and wounded 30.

The 1st Infantry Division, known by the nickname the Big Red One, is based out of Tikrit, the heart of the so-called Sunni Triangle. Division Headquarters is located at Wuerzburg, Germany, along with most of the brigades. The 1st Brigade is based in Fort Riley, Kansas.
