Names of French Holocaust victims on wall

PARIS, Jan. 24 (UPI) -- A wall with the engraved names of 76,000 Jews deported from France to Nazi death camps during the Holocaust was unveiled in Paris Monday.

The "Wall of Names," which included some 11,000 children, is at the entrance of the Paris Holocaust museum, the BBC reported.

French President Jacques Chirac will officially unveil the memorial Tuesday, before flying to Auschwitz in Poland to mark the liberation of the Nazi concentration camp 60 years ago during World War II.

More than 2,000 Holocaust survivors and relatives of victims attended the ceremony in Paris Monday to read a prayer for the dead.

"This wall keeps our innermost secrets in its stone and delivers them to those who pass," said France's former Health Minister Simone Veil, an Auschwitz survivor.
