Government confirms Zarqawi aide arrest

BAGHDAD, Jan. 24 (UPI) -- The Iraqi government confirmed Monday that Sami Mohammad Ali Said al-Jaaf, a lieutenant of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi has been captured.

The New York Times reports that al-Jaaf, who also used the name Abu Omar al-Kurdi, has confessed to making the explosives used in the bombing of the Jordanian Embassy, which killed at least 11 people, Iraqi government spokesman Thaier al-Naqib said in a statement.

Naqib's statements could not be independently verified, the Times said.

Al-Jaaf also confessed to participating in a car bomb in Najaf, Iraq, that killed at least 95 people, including Muhammad Bakr al-Hakim, a cleric who founded the most prominent Shiite political party.

Naqib issued an additional statement that security forces captured Zarqawi's chief of propaganda, Hasam Hamad Abdullah Muhsin al-Dulaimi, known as Dr. Hassan, Jan. 14.
