INNSBRUCK, Austria, Jan. 24 (UPI) -- Rescuers in Austria Monday searched for a missing U.S. snowboarder presumed dead after several avalanches killed three Canadians.

The 31-year-old from San Mateo, Calif., has been missing since the snow slide at the St. Anton resort Saturday.

In another avalanche Saturday, a German snowboarder was killed in Montafon in western Austria.

There were unconfirmed reports two Canadians were reported missing Sunday afternoon, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp., said. The trio that died Saturday were wearing emergency locating devices, but died regardless.

A combination of heavy snowfalls, strong winds followed by mild temperatures has made the snow cover unstable throughout the Austrian region.
