Monster tornado devastates Oklahoma City area; at least 51 dead
KIEV, Ukraine, Jan. 20 (UPI) -- Ukrainian officials set a Sunday inauguration for the nation's third president, the pro-western Viktor Yuschenko who won election by 2 million votes.
Parliament set the inaugural date Thursday after the Supreme Court, responding to a challenge by former Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovich, ruled legal the decision of the Ukrainian Central Election Commission announcing Yushchenko as the winner of the Dec. 26 election, Novosti reported.
Yushchenko received 51.99 percent of the vote vs. Yanukovich's 44.2 percent, mostly from eastern provinces with close ties to Russia.
Yushchenko will be sworn in at noon and then join supporters for celebrations in the capital.
The Dec. 26 election was a rerun of the Nov. 21 balloting, the results of which were overturned because of widespread vote fraud.
