New Zealand man says he wants to die

HAMILTON, New Zealand, Jan. 18 (UPI) -- A 39-year-old New Zealand man, with motor neurone disease, said he plans to starve himself to death rather than waiting to die.

Andrew Morris, who can barely speak, said he has gone public with his decision because he wants a federal law to allow voluntary euthanasia, reported the New Zealand Herald Tuesday.

"As soon as I was diagnosed I was a walking dead man. I accepted it immediately," the former accountant told the Herald. "There is no sense in putting everyone through more suffering. Once quality is gone I don't see any point in longevity."

Morris has progressive bulbar palsy, a form of motor neurone disease, where eventually the muscles weaken and waste away and the person cannot speak, swallow or move.
