Canada body-parts murder victim identified
EDINBURGH, Scotland, Jan. 15 (UPI) -- The Norwegian army has announced it will promote a king penguin -- already an Honorable Regimental Sergeant Major -- in Edinburgh, Scotland.
Norwegian officers have said they will promote Nils Olav II when they visit Scotland to perform at the Military Tattoo in August, the Scotsman reported Saturday.
The officers began the penguin-promoting tradition in 1971, when the Norwegian King's Guard, performing at the military event, were reportedly impressed by the Edinburgh Zoo's king penguins. They adopted one of the flightless birds, Nils Olav I, named for Lieutenant Nils Egelien and Norway's King Olav. He was instated as a Lance Corporal.
Nils Olav II's decoration ceremony will take place among celebrations in Edinburgh to mark the 100th anniversary of Norwegian independence.
