MIAMI, Jan. 14 (UPI) -- Some of the dissidents recently released from Cuban prisons are looking forward to getting out of the country, at least for awhile, The Miami Herald reported Friday.
Raul Rivero, one of 14 prisoners released, plans to move to Spain with his family for a year before returning to Havana, said a friend in Miami, Ricardo Trotti of the Inter-American Press Association.
Manuel Vazquez Portal and Jorge Olivera, two other freed dissidents, are also expected to leave soon and several others are considering the option, The Herald said.
"If I request to leave permanently, then the Cuban government will be very happy," said Marta Beatriz Roque, another freed dissident. "But I don't think I should be the one leaving the country. The one who should leave is (President) Fidel Castro, who has ruined the life of Cubans."
The Cuban government arrested 75 dissidents in March 2003 and sentenced them to long jail terms after brief trials.
They were accused of helping the United States against the Castro regime.
