Wisconsin voters may see Green in 2006

WASHINGTON, Jan. 13 (UPI) -- In an e-mail to party leaders, U.S. Rep. Mark Green, R-Wis., said he may challenge first-term Democrat Gov. Jim Doyle in 2006.

One of two potential GOP challengers to Doyle, Green's e-mail said he would spend the next few weeks "talking to leaders like you to gain your insight on the governor's race."

"I hope you won't be shy," Green said.

Green spokesman Chris Tuttle told the Green Bay (Wis.) News-Chronicle the e-mail "speaks for itself" and refused to issue a timetable for a formal decision.

The paper also reported Thursday Green's expected announcement of gubernatorial plans has led one GOP state representative, Appelton's Terri McCormick, to announce she is considering a run for Green's congressional seat.

The other potential Republican gubernatorial candidate, Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker, also kept his name before the voters by issuing Wednesday a rebuttal to Doyle's 2005 State of the State address hours before the governor gave it before the Wisconsin Legislature.
