Canada body-parts murder victim identified

WASHINGTON, Jan. 5 (UPI) -- House Republican leaders have chosen Rep. Jerry Lewis of California to head the powerful Appropriations Committee.
Bypassing Reps. Ralph Regula of Ohio and Harold Rogers of Kentucky, both more senior members of the panel, GOP leaders voted to give Lewis the position and with it the reigns over all spending that comes through the body.
Lewis was the biggest fundraiser of the three in 2004 and managed to gain the support of not only his own party members from California, but those from Texas on the GOP caucus steering committee, ensuring his victory.
The entire Republican conference must now approve the move, which is expected.
