Bad year for Palestinian inmates in Israel

GAZA, Jan. 3 (UPI) -- The ministry of Palestinian prisoners affairs Monday criticized Israel's apparent decision to treat all prisoners like terrorists.

A ministry report issued Sunday said conditions have deteriorated to the lowest level in 30 years.

The report charged Israeli authorities are treating Palestinian prisoners as terrorists using methods similar to those adopted against those being held by the United States at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba.

"The most dangerous thing done by the Israeli government is that it tried to portray the prisoners as terrorists," the report added.

There are an estimated 7,000 Palestinians in Israeli jails, including Fatah's chief in the West Bank, Marwan Barghouti.
