ANAHEIM, Calif., Jan. 1 (UPI) -- California authorities were holding a man who dressed like the villain in the "Scream" movie and used a machete to slash his siblings and friend.
Rodrigo Marcelo Castro, 19, was in the Orange County Jail on $1 million bail in the slashing attack of his 23-year-old brother, his 14-year-old sister and a 20-year-old family friend, the Los Angeles Times reported Saturday.
The brother and sister were treated at a hospital and released after Friday's attack. The injured friend did not require treatment, said Anaheim police, who theorized that Castro attacked the three for publicity.
"It is our belief it was his intent to kill his entire family, and he wanted to gain some notoriety for his actions," said Sgt. Rick Martinez said.
