EVANSVILLE, Ind., Dec. 30 (UPI) -- Two Indiana Wal-Mart Supercenter assistant managers have been accused of shooting and killing a cat that lived in a storage trailer behind the store.

The employees, who face a felony charge of animal cruelty, told Vanderburgh County sheriff's deputies the store's general manager told them to kill the cat, the Evansville Courier & Press said Thursday.

A pellet gun from the East Side store sales floor was allegedly used, according to the sheriff's report.

Christopher Scott Anderson, 29, and Jeffrey Alex Hardin, 21 , are scheduled to appear in Superior Court Jan, 4.

"We were outraged when we learned of this incident," said Sharon Weber, a Wal-Mart spokeswoman.

She said all management personnel potentially involved in the incident have been suspended without pay pending an internal investigation. Depending on its results, they could be fired.
