Baby dies in car as parents play pachinko

INABE, Japan, Dec. 29 (UPI) -- A baby girl died in a car in Japan as her parents played pachinko, a slot machine-pinball like game, all day without feeding the infant, police said.

The parents noticed their 6-month-old daughter slumped down in the car seat when they returned to the vehicle parked outside a pachinko parlor in Inabe Tuesday night, the Mainichi Shimbun reported.

The baby was pronounced dead at a hospital.

An autopsy showed the baby had died of acute circulation failure, the newspaper said.

Police said the baby's mother had come to check on her about a dozen times during the pachinko game but only looked through the car window and concluded she was all right. Police said she did not give her daughter any milk during the time she was in the vehicle.
