GAZA, Dec. 26 (UPI) -- About 560 Palestinians, including Palestinian ministers, lawmakers and intellectuals signed on an appeal published on Sunday to end the intifada.
The signed appeal supports the calls of Palestine Liberation Organization Chairman Mahmoud Abbas few days ago to end the uprising and renew talks with Israel.
The Palestinian intifada erupted in late September 2000 after Israel and the Palestinians failed in to reach an agreement on final status issues.
The signatories also called for democratic reforms.
"We reaffirm our legitimate right to confront occupation, but call for restoring the popular character of our intifada and ceasing actions that reduce the range of (international) support for our cause," the appeal said.
