Helicopter crash, kill 13 in Indonesia

JAKARTA, Dec. 23 (UPI) -- A helicopter of the Indonesian air force crashed in Central Java Thursday, killing all 13 people on board, officials said.

The Super Puma helicopter was en route from the central Java town of Yogjakarta to Halim Perdanakusuma near Jakarta. It was carrying six crew members and seven passengers, when it crashed in Wonosobo district, about 280 miles southeast of Jakarta, said air force spokesman Marshal Sagoem Tambun.

"The accident was due to bad weather. The helicopter crashed into Mount Sumbing in central Java," Tambun said.

Tambun said all people on board were killed.

It was the second helicopter crash in Indonesia in two days.

On Wednesday, a helicopter belonging to the Indonesian Navy crashed in the easternmost Indonesian province of Papua, killing all five people on board.
