Infant ripped from mother goes home

TOPEKA, Kan., Dec. 21 (UPI) -- A 4-day-old infant girl cut out of her dead mother's body has been released to her father from a Topeka, Kan., hospital, the New York Daily News reported.

The tot, Victoria Jo Stinnett, awoke Tuesday with her father, Zeb, on the day of her 23-year-old mother's funeral.

More than 1,000 mourners were expected at the funeral of Bobbie Jo Stinnett, who was strangled in her Missouri home, and then butchered to remove the 8-month-old fetus from her womb.

The accused, Lisa Montgomery, 36, of Melvern, Kan., made her first appearance in a Kansas City, Kan., court Monday, and faces kidnapping and murder charges, which are likely to be tried in Missouri.

Montgomery is charged with scheming her way into Stinnett's home, strangling Stinnett from behind and then slicing out the child. It's alleged she then fled to her home in eastern Kansas, where she pretended she had just given birth to the infant, fooling her husband and her pastor.

Meanwhile, the infant is in good condition although the newspaper said her father has been in seclusion with his mother and mother-in-law.
