Religious leader receives peace award

WASHINGTON, Dec. 14 (UPI) -- International religious leader the Rev. Sun Myung Moon was presented with a Crown of Peace award Tuesday for his work in the Middle East and Korean peninsula.

"Tourism had stopped in Israel, and suddenly the streets of (Jerusalem) were filled with people from all over the world who come to promote peace and reconciliation," said former Jerusalem councilman Dr Eliezer Glaubach, making the nomination for the award in Washington. "They had been brought by the Rev Moon. His Middle East peace pilgrimages have brought hope to ordinary Arabs and Israelis."

The Rev. Moon, founder of the Unification Church, is also founder of News World Communications Inc., a media company that owns United Press International.
