Moons accept peace crown award

WASHINGTON, Dec. 14 (UPI) -- International religious leader, the Rev. Sun Myung Moon, and his wife were acclaimed as King and Queen of Peace at an award banquet in Washington.

Participants at the 4th World Summit on Leadership and Good Governance nominated Moon and his wife, Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon, for the Crown of Peace Award.

Speaking for the nomination, political scientist Dr. Eliezer Glaubach, a former Jerusalem councilman, said the Moons' Middle East Peace Pilgrimages were bringing hope to ordinary Arabs and Israelis.

Archbishop George Stallings of the American Clergy Leadership Conference compared their human rights efforts with those of Mohandas Gandhi, Mother Teresa and Dr. Martin Luther King. Dr. Kim Min Ha, an expert on Korean reunification, praised their efforts to bring peace to the Korean peninsula.

Moon is the founder of News World Communications, Inc., a media company that owns United Press International.

Good Governance Awards were also given to Sir John Compton, former prime minister of St. Lucia, Walid Sadik, an Arab-Israeli former Knesset member, and Australian Member of Parliament, David Clarke.
