Navy unveils new uniform prototypes

SAN DIEGO, Dec. 11 (UPI) -- The U.S. Navy has unveiled new service uniform designs at the Naval Medical Center in San Diego, Stars and Stripes reported Saturday.

The uniforms, prototypes for lower enlisted sailors designed for comfort and year-round wear, come in two types: gray or khaki shirts with Navy blue pants or skirts. The prototypes include several options, including sewn-in creases versus pressed creases, and two styles of garrison caps.

About 550 sailors will test-wear the uniforms this winter at locations spanning the globe.

After the six-month testing phase, the Navy will collect surveys and turn to the chief of naval operations for a decision regarding the change.
