Rifle discharges, strikes teen

HIGHLAND PARK, Mich., Dec. 10 (UPI) -- A shotgun accidentally discharged while a Michigan man was making his bed and shot his 16-year-old niece in the back.

Talisha Givens' uncle was changing the sheets inside their suburban Detroit home when a shotgun under the mattress discharged, WDIV-TV, Detroit, reported Friday. Gunshot went through the wall and the back of the couch where the girl was lying, police said.

There was a popping noise, then Talisha said, "My back, my back," her aunt said.

Givens was treated at an area hospital Wednesday night and released, but told WDIV, "It still hurts."

The uncle, who said he keeps the gun for protection, was not charged.
