WASHINGTON, Dec. 10 (UPI) -- A U.S. Department of Homeland Security inspector general who called the department inept and rife with fraud has been fired, ABC News reported Friday.
Inspector General Clark Ervin was informed Wednesday night he would be replaced at the end of his term. The White House had appointed Ervin for one term of Congress, but he had indicated he wanted to continue in the post.
Ervin's scathing reports of the Homeland Security Department had made him unpopular with the administration.
His year-end report, released Friday, alleged millions of dollars have been wasted or are unaccounted for by the department.
However, the White House told ABC News the personnel change was not significant. "His term expired and that's that," said an administration spokesperson.
