TEL AVIV, Israel, Dec. 7 (UPI) -- Israel is offering $10 million for "any proven information" that would lead to missing airman Ron Arad.
Arad, a navigator, was captured in Lebanon in October 1986 when he bailed out of his Phantom, which apparently was hit by one of its own bombs that had exploded prematurely.
Shiite Amal guerrillas captured him alive, and the group's then-security chief Mustafa Dirani whisked him away. Israeli security believes Dirani sold him to other Iranian backed forces in Lebanon and he might be in Lebanon or Iran. Israel lost track of him in September 1987.
Commandoes kidnapped Dirani but that failed to shed light on his fate.
The $10 million reward was announced in Tel Aviv and on the Web site, the Born to Freedom Foundation, www.10million.org
The foundation also gave phone and fax numbers in Britain and said people could contact any Israeli embassy or consulate.
