Barn fire kills horse, goats

CHESTERFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich., Dec. 7 (UPI) -- A barn fire outside Detroit early Tuesday killed 13 horses and four goats.

About 17 horses and several goats were believed to be inside the barn, according to Chesterfield Township police Sgt. Kenneth Anderson.

Many of the animals may have been trapped in the blaze or they might have gotten loose and escaped, but a dense fog was making them hard to locate, reported WDIV-TV, Detroit.

"We're hoping some got loose and we just can't see them on the property," said Anderson.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but investigators said the fire might have started from heaters the owners were using to keep baby goats warm.
