Egypt to return ambassador to Israel

JERUSALEM, Dec. 5 (UPI) -- Israel's Foreign Ministry Director General Ron Prushor said Sunday Egypt might return its ambassador to Israel in the near future.

Relations between Israel and Egypt have warmed since a visit to Jerusalem last week by Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Aboul Gheit and Egyptian intelligence chief Omar Suleiman, the Ha'aretz news agency reported.

Israel Radio said Egyptian sources say once Israel-Palestinian peace negotiations are restarted, Egypt will return its ambassador to Israel.

Gheit and Suleiman visited after Mubarak met with Syrian President Bashar Assad to discuss developments in the Palestinian territories and the potential for renewed Israel-Syria peace talks.
