KIEV, Ukraine, Nov. 30 (UPI) -- Political posturing swept the Ukrainian capital Tuesday, with candidates calling for new presidential elections and offering one another political posts.
Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovich turned down an offer from liberal rival Viktor Yushchenko to retain his role as prime minister.
In turn, the Interfax agency said Yanukovych suggested holding new elections, in which neither he nor Yushchenko would take part if a court proves instances of vote-rigging took place in the Nov. 21 presidential runoff.
The country's outgoing president, Leonid Kuchma, said the election should be held again, Sky News said.
Meanwhile, in Moscow, which favors Yanukovich, Boris Gryzlov, the speaker of the Russian parliament said Ukraine was heading towards either a breakup or violent conflict as a result of its disputed election.
"The situation is heading towards a split or towards bloodshed," Gryzlov said.
Monday, the National Bank of Ukraine issued a statement saying the people of Ukraine were beginning to withdraw their deposits, RIA Novosti reported.
